Last week I featured a news item from the BBC - "House sails to new home": http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/americas/7463667.stm

This prompted an email from David Elliott, who spotted that BBC hadn't got it quite right. The house was being barged to Fanny Bay on Vancouver Island not to Vancouver. (As there is a two-our ferry ride between Vancouver and the Island that is quite a difference.) According to the CBC, the Canadian house moving company does about 50 house moves a year and moving houses by water is the easiest. Also of note is that the barge is based in Alaska. Lumber-built houses are of course lighter in weight and more flexible for moving than stone or brick might be. The CBC report is here: http://tinyurl.com/3pm7lu
