The postponed Meridian TV series "Along These Lines", produced by Platform 14 Ltd, will be broadcast from next month. This is a series of eight programmes looking at what became of some of the railways in southern England that were axed in the 1950s and 1960s. They will be shown on Sundays at 7.30pm as follows:

Programme 1: Castleman's Corkscrew (6/4/08) Programme 2: The Longmoor Military Railway (13/4/08) Programme 3: The Somerset & Dorset Joint Railway (20/4/08) Programme 4: The Hawkhurst Branch (27/4/08) Programme 5: The Meon Valley Railway (4/5/08) Programme 6: The East Kent Railway (11/5/08) Programme 7: The Sprat & Winkle Line (18/5/08) Programme 8: The Isle of Wight (25/5/08)

If you are not in the Meridian ITV region, but have Sky, you can manually add Meridian to your digibox: - Bring up the Services menu and choose option 4 "System Setup", then option 4 again "Add Channels". - Type in the frequency "10891H", symbol rate "22.0" and FEC "5/6". - Choose "Find Channels" and the list of channels being broadcast by that transponder appears. - Highlight the name and press the yellow button for all the ones you want to add to your list. - Press the "Select" button to save your choices - your selected channels are now be available under the "Other Channels" option on the "Services" menu. For those who don't live in the SE or have Sky it might be possible to watch it on the Meridian website: http://www.itvlocal.com/meridian/

There is also a separate series on disused railways to be broadcast on the BBC. This one will be national in scope and the production team are currently up in Scotland exploring various routes that have been suggested by the Railway Ramblers. Filming starts in early April, on about the same day that the Meridian series first goes on air. The production company contracted to the BBC is Skyworks Ltd. http://www.railwayramblers.org.uk

Ralph Rawlinson advises that North Tyneside Council has produced a series of leaflets on waggonways in its area. "North Tyneside Waggonways" is a large free pack containing eight leaflets covering Tynemouth, Backworth, Biodiversity Park, Burradon, Holywell Dene, Rising Sun, Royal Quays, Seaton Burn.
