RAILDATE: the weekly newsletter of the Hursley Park Model Railway Society: http://www.ibmhursleyclub.org.uk/ss/hpmrs/

The editor will be on holiday for the next couple of weeks. Next issue: 8th September, all being well!

On Wednesday 16th August, "Lord Nelson" was moved from Eastleigh to the West Somerset Railway; it was in steam, but hauled by diesel. There hasn't been a lot of attention given to the move, and although some shots were shown on BBC "South Today", there is no mention on the BBC website. You can see some photos of the move here:

Go to "On This Day", enter "16 Aug", and click the arrow.

From the morning of 9th September to the late afternoon of 10th September, the Friends of Romsey Signal Box will be undertaking a marathon continuous operating session as one of a series of heritage events organised by Romsey Civic Trust. In addition, the new pavilion wll be officially opened, and this landmark will be marked by an exhibition of photographs of Southern steam taken by Rod Hoyle in the 1960s.

All welcome at any time!

The GWR Modelling website is excellent:

I hear, however, that it is looking for a new owner. If anyone has the time to devote to the site it certainly deserves to continue.

An interesting BBC article on the railway to Red Wharf Bay, Anglesey:

The Highland Railway Society:

Fancy a holiday at Whitwell station on the Isle of Wight? Looks nice:

Richard Maund's Passenger Services over Unusual Lines website:

Richard Evans' Cheshire Lines Committee website

Graham Turner has started up a fotopic site to bring together all the images he's taken on the Wirksworth branch over the least few years while it has been undergoing its resurgence:

Also, the WyvernRail rolling stock list has been updated and is available in PDF format from the Ecclesbourne Valley Railway website.

Stunning new live steam Bulleid Pacifics from Aster (if you have the money!)

Vote for Britain's unsung landmarks:

A BBC article on the revival of the Cromford Canal:

The East Cornwall Mining History Association:

As part of part of the South Gloucestershire Open Doors Week, the South Gloucestershire Mines Research Group (SGMRG) will hold an Open Day at Oldwood Pit Coal Mine in Rangeworthy, north of Yate, near Bristol on 10th September 2006 from 11.00am to 5.00pm.

Guided tours of Colliery site remains. Display of local mining artefacts. Refreshments. Signposted from the B4058 south of Rangeworthy.

And finally, Nick Wheat provides another entry for the "You couldn't make it up" file:

The retired RAF English Electric Canberra PR.9s have gone to Kemble to join the Hawker Hunters which means they'll (hopefully) be on the airshow circuit shortly. There is also a suggestion to hire them out for mapping work, etc. The first customer? You guessed it - their erstwhile owners, the Ministry of Defence!
